We’re Here To Make A Difference

It’s Good 2 Give (registered charity number SC041416)  officially came to life in April 2010 and already we have raised over £700,000 for local young people with cancer and their families. We may be tiny but we have huge ambitions! In the long term, our aim is to raise £1 million to fund the build of a purpose-built respite house for young people and their families affected by cancer. This will allow families to use it for a short break together – a purpose-built, restful, safe place.

On a day-to-day basis, however, It’s Good 2 Give provides support of another kind – anything that can make the lives of those impacted by cancer in any way easier. Whether that’s a parents pack, a workshop, ironing voucher  or nutritional snacks, we’ll try to find a way to make it happen.

What Do We Do?

It’s Good 2 Give offers support to young people with cancer and their families. We also try to make life a little bit easier on a day-to-day basis. Some of the things we do are:

Parents' and Patients' Packs

All the essentials plus a bit more for the unexpected stay in hospital. Click here to read more.

Nutritional Snacks for patients in Ward 2 at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children and their parents

Nuts, fruit, smoothies, ice-cream,  cheese and biscuits: parents and patients need their energy at this hard time. Click here to read more.

Practical Workshops

Fun workshops that also give the young cancer patients a chance to try a new skill – from jewellery making to confidence building, fascinator making to bookbinding! Click here to read more.

Practical Support

We’ve recently added in two new services for parents whose child is currently in hospital having treatment.   Gardening maintenance (during the summer months) and ironing services!

Requests from professional staff

We respond quickly to requests from professional staff – eg we have provided 50% deposit on a motability car to allow a young man independence, provided laptops to let young people continue with their studies and keep in touch with friends and family while in hospital.  Small items like ‘dongles’ for internet access make a big difference too!  There are too many to list here but if you’d like to know more, do get in touch.

How do we do it?

We host a range of fundraisers throughout the year, and encourage people to hold their own. We’re little and local – and we aim to get the community as involved as possible. We’ve had successful ‘Blingo’ Afternoon Teas, a fabulous fashion show, pedalled 4 Scotland – the list could go on…

Who’s involved?

Anyone can give! We are volunteer led – Lynne works full time on a voluntary basis running the charity.   We have eleven trustees and dozens of volunteers, who help at events whenever they can. We also have some wonderful figureheads (see the Meet the Team page)

How can I volunteer?

It’s Good 2 Give work on the basis that everyone can give. It doesn’t have to be money – you could give your time – or even your good idea. One very important thing you can give is blood. Cancer patients can need huge amounts of blood: it’s free, quick and – honestly! – not painful. It’s Good 2 Give want to take the duty out of giving, to make it a fun and memorable part of everyday life. Come along to one of our events and find out!  We’d love it if you organised one of your own – contact us to let us know your plans.
