Quiz night

Posted by | Events, Special supporters | No Comments

That’s two quiz nights we have held – super successful – no extras – (raffles, auctions etc)

just a straightforward quiz night – a tenner each and you get great snack food too included.  The haggis spring rolls are DELICIOUS and folk were raving about the dips.  Huge thanks go to the staff at the Canon’s Gait pub in the Royal Mile for being so supportive.

Request in from the quizzers was to do the next one with more questions on pop music, sport, and children’s films.  Their request is already actioned!  I have started to get quizzes ready and one of our regular supporters is busy taking photos for me around the city so that will make a superb picture round.

We have so many events coming up that we don’t have a date yet for the next quiz – keep an eye on the website (or better still join our mailing list) for details.

Thanks also to all who attended both events.

Double our Money

Posted by | Charity of the Year, Events, Kilimanjaro | No Comments

I am of an age to remember a programme called Double Your Money – I think it was Hughie Green  who presented it.

Anyway I want to Double OUR Money this year.   We have done superbly well in our first nearly 3 years by raising over £250,000 and that is just fantastic.  And to each and every one of you who have helped get us to this point – a huge thank you.

But I’d really like to see us getting the land and starting the build if not in 2013 itself definitely in 2014.

So I have put together a plan for the year –

continue the great work with our charity business partners

including our new partners (more of that soon)

we have twelve (yes, twelve) events in planning for the year ahead  – I will tell you more about them in the next few days.

one great truly amazing competition

32 incredible trekkers joining me climbing Kilimanjaro in October 2013

get 100 cyclists in our Pedal for Paul 2013 team

promoting our merchandise

applying for grants

encouraging others to fundraise for us!

If you are up for helping us raise £250,000 this year please do get in touch – we’d love to hear from you.

April showers

Posted by | General | No Comments

What a difference sunshine makes, doesn’t it?

The past ten days we have been so fortunate with the weather and almost took it for granted.  This morning is more like an early spring day!  Showers and drizzle and a bit chilly.  Ah well, it will make me knuckle down and get going on the huge mountain of paperwork here in the office.  Perhaps.

I’ve got an exciting week ahead – starting in just 20minutes time.   I am visiting Curves gym at Barnton to collect wonderful donations for our healthy snacks scheme.  Then off to Hard Rock Cafe in George Street to meet Lesley Ross to chat about the upcoming Rock and Roll marathon – no, I am not taking part.  I am cheering on our runners and have a space in the Hard Rock Tent (good news considering the possible weather!).  Later today I have a meeting to discuss forthcoming afternoon tea events at the Caledonian Hotel soon to become a Waldorf hotel (oooh.)

I love Tuesdays – always spent in our home office with volunteers.  The amazing young ambassadors – Michaela Waddell and Ailsa Macgregor – will be working away on the fashion show and this year’s planned workshops.   Ann, Marlyn, Susan and I will be packing 30 parent and patient packs in readiness for delivery to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.  Multi-tasking as ever we will also be planning our next two events – the Elephant Drive and Blingo.

Wednesday I am off to Police HQ to be given a lovely cheque from monies raised at their Ball in January.

In between all of that we have meetings at the Sheraton, with STV local, and individual donors.

I’d like to see the sun return soon but meantime I will make the most of the inside time!

Our newest Trustee, Craig Ali

Posted by | trustees | No Comments

Introducing Craig Ali of Total Health as our newest Trustee.

We are all delighted to have Craig on board.  With his expertise and knowledge he is willing to ‘look after’ some of our physical challenges.  He has already offered to do  a couple of coaching sessions for our teams for the Dragon Boats challenge in June and our cyclists in the Pedal for Paul challenge in September.   As for the trekkers for Kilimanjaro in 2013 he is going to post advice on training just for them on the private page on our website devoted just for Kilimanjaro trek 2013 and organise workshops in the run up to the Kili event – good for our fitness and good for us to get to know each other!  He has, over the past few years, raised funds for us by organising fitness workshops so many of our supporters will already know him.

As Emily, one of our other Trustees said – ‘We will be the fittest Board of Trustees in Scotland’ soon with Craig encouraging us!   (and Emily is turning into a bit of an athlete herself – pushing herself to do events like Hairy Haggis marathon relay in May, Tough Mudder in July and Dragon Boat in June – she is going to be a tough act to follow!)

Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh

Posted by | Charity of the Year, Events | No Comments

This is a fabulous story!   We are currently charity of the year at Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh and they have done all sorts of fundraising events – from running the marathon, helping at our fashion show(indeed modelling at our fashion show), to this latest and most successful fundraiser.  Raising a staggering £2k they sold Hard Rock Cafe lapel pins – but wait till you see the design!

Lesley Ross, Marketing Director at Edinburgh designed them herself.  I think they are absolutely brilliant.

Well done Lesley on your creativity and also your selling skills.  We are simply delighted.  We still have 3 lapel pins if anyone would like one – keeping one back for our Ball in March and the other two are going for a donation – gotta be a good donation though!

and here is a photo of me with Lesley – getting the first instalment of £1500.  Ab Fab….

Loretto School

Posted by | Events, Special supporters | No Comments

Yeeha!   We were presented with a lovely cheque for £1100 from Loretto Junior School last week.  The little ones did a sponsored walk for us.

Excellent news and it was just lovely to be invited to the assembly to be given it.  As you can see from the photo they were enchanting!  In the middle of the pic (almost) is young Victoria Stewart, who is a wonderful young supporter of It’s Good 2 Give.   Along with her parents, Robin and Vera of course.  Victoria finished treatment late last year for cancer.  Thanks to Vera and Robin for suggesting us as beneficiaries from the sponsorship and to staff and pupils at Loretto too.  It is a really fantastic cheque to receive.
