Music workshop at Bruntsfield

Posted by | Workshops | No Comments

Yesterday saw us holding our first Music workshop.  Organised by Music Bugs and held at Bruntsfield  it was great fun.  From finger frog puppets, coloured net squares, a technicoloured parachute that Joseph himself would have been proud of, coloured balls, incredible bubbles that floated high in the room for minutes to amazing miniature musical instruments.

Our first four participants loved it – so did their mums.

Thanks to Hilary at Music Bugs for her great ideas and brilliant workshop.  Here’s to many more.

Waitrose, Comely Bank

Great news.

Just popped into Waitrose at Comely Bank and saw this up on the wall.

Tremendous amount.  Thanks to all who nominated us and all who shopped till they dropped there to get us extra tokens.

One Waitrose store down one to go – help now needed to nominate us at Waitrose, Morningside!

Ready Steady Jewel

Posted by | Events | No Comments

Ian Nicholson of the Precious Metals Workshop in Dalmeny Street, Edinburgh is organising for the second year – a Ready Steady Jewel event – 14 jewellers making an item which will then be auctioned at a fantastic event on 30 August at the Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Dalmeny Street (home to the Precious Metal workshop) .

I popped in to see them today and was fascinated watching – the intricacies of their designs, the hard work involved in making individual pieces of silver – some with stones.   I wish I was even a little bit creative – I’d love to design and make a piece of jewellery for It’s Good 2 Give!   The talent of the designers I saw is quite remarkable.

If you’d like to come along to the event on 30 August do get in touch – either with me or with Ian at the Precious Metal workshop.

The more the merrier.

Meanwhile if you’d like to see more photos from today click here!

Where does your money go?

Perhaps you have attended one (or more) of our fantastic events – or put loose change into one of our collecting cans. Talking of which, if you have  or know of an office or shop that could take one of our cans do get in touch.

Maybe you organised an event to raise funds for us or had a significant birthday and asked for donations in lieu of gifts.

Then thought ‘I wonder what do It’s Good 2 Give  do with that donation?’.

Let me tell you;

There is £100,000′ in the bank ‘- a pretty good start to our £1m target.

In addition, we have agreed to several requests from professional staff at the hospital.

For example, a 17 year old asked for a specific make and model of mobile phone which we found later allowed him to increase the font size thus allowing him to keep in touch with his friends by text and email.  (Sadly, he later lost his fight with cancer )

In order to allow a family to keep mobile we paid for essential repairs on the family car making it roadworthy again.

We contributed 50% of the deposit on a mobility car for a young man who has cancer

Nowadays laptops are an integral part of a young person’s life allowing them to continue with homework and to communicate with friends – we have provided 2 laptops  to patients in ward 2 at the Sick Kids.

Our weekly delivery of healthy snacks for patients and parents is eagerly received!  Each week we take in smoothies, individual pots of fruit, individual puddings, healthier crisps, individual portions of cheese and biscuits, small ice creams, ice lollies, cereal bars, juices.  For the past five months we have  had generous support from sponsors for this – City Cabs Ltd, Flavour catering, Timberbush Tours and Queensferry Rotary Club – we thank them for their help.  If you know of anyone who might sponsor a month (£250) please pass on my details to them!

Our range of workshops is increasing week by week

From jewellery making to wood turning, from glass painting to craft skills we are happy to try anything that keeps the children and young people engaged.

As part of our annual fashion show we are holding  confidence building workshops.  These are very popular and help our models relax on the day!

Parents are showing much appreciation for our Parents Packs – a pack of essentials but with a luxurious and thoughtful touch – in addition to a toothbrush and toothpaste (and thanks must go to the Edinburgh Sheraton for those), we provide Molton Brown shower gel, notelets and pen, stamps, a booklight and fan (it can be very warm in the hospital).  Many of the items we provide are donated by our kind supporters especially around Christmas time.

The amazing Corey Hastings

Posted by | christmas merchandise, Special supporters | No Comments

Corey, as well as being a bit of a superstar in the Scottish hockey world, has also found time to support It’s Good 2 Give!

He first came to our attention with his winning entry in our Pound Pics challenge – it was a brilliant piece of art winning Corey one of our Apple Ipod nano’s

His picture was so good (and he offered to further help us) that we asked if he would consider designing a couple of Christmas cards – we loved them both and they are currently at the printers!

Thank you Corey – we very much appreciate your support and I am sure your cards will sell well for us this Christmas.
