Christmas Cards 2013 – Meet the Designers

Posted by | christmas merchandise, Special supporters | No Comments

Last but far from least – meet Kate  Holliday.

I first met Kate when she was working at a luxury stationery store in Edinburgh a few  years ago.  She offered to design me a christmas card and I loved it.

It is about friendship and support and each year our little girl, little boy, their dog, cat and the little wren do something different.  This year I asked Kate to include a toy bus to represent ‘our’ bus.   The result is spectacular.

As you know by now, I asked all our designers a few questions and  Kate’s answers are below.

I wanted  you to meet our designers properly because I am so proud of us getting support from people we know, and  having the cards printed here in Scotland (Perth to be exact) and wrapped and packed here in Edinburgh.

Shop local is something I support and so it seems ok to me to ask you to support us too!

“My best friend is a wonderful girl who I call Jim. We’ve been great chums for 12 years. Thanks Jim.

My favourite colour, or colours rather, are a red’dy orange and teal.

My favourite smells. Hard to choose, but off the top of my head……bread baking, cardamom and the smell of the outdoors after a good dose of rain.

Favourite puddings……hot sticky toffee pudding with cold vanilla ice-cream or just a simple bowl of fresh raspberries. Can’t think of many puddings I dislike though!

Something I would love…….I would love to travel north to see the Aurora Borealis. I hope to do this soon!”

We have packed them 5 of the girl and  5 of the boy into packs of ten for you with white envelopes – these are size A5 and a pack of ten is £4

Next we have a card designed for us by professional card designer Kate Holliday of Sunlight on Closed Lids.

Size is 155mm square and a pack of ten is £4

Our little Robin card is a photograph by award winning photographer and long time supporter Alexis Manson.   (Watch this space for more greetings cards featuring Alexis’ photos) size is A6 and pack of ten is £3.50

and last but certainly not least a very special card featuring a picture drawn by 8 year old Tabby Lawson.  Tabby is year 3 of treatment for cancer and doing really well.  Looking at this card it is hard to believe an 8year old drew it and I love it.  Meet Tabby here.  size is A6 and pack of ten will cost you £3.50.

Our thanks to all those who have designed our cards over the years and especially this year.

We are very proud to have our cards printed right here in Scotland by Farquhar’s of Perth – it makes a real difference knowing the people who are involved in every stage of the process.  Andy is their driver and always has a smile and good chat when he delivers our printing.

Our volunteers who fold the cards, then pack and wrap and tag them are the salt of the earth as are all those who help us sell the cards at events, fairs, exhibitions.

We will have all the cards at our upcoming events and  can order them via me – payment will be by cheque, cash or BACS (internet banking) or by credit card (small surcharge applies).  We can post out and will charge post and packing at cost.

Two of the cards – Cathy’s cards and Kate’s cards are available online at the Lothian Buses webshop.

Here is a wee photo of  the cards being delivered to Lynne by Andy from Farquhar’s printers in Perth.  Shop local!

Christmas Cards 2012

We are very proud of our 2012 Christmas Cards!   Designed by people we know, printed in Scotland and packed by us.

First up is Alexis Manson‘s Robin photo.  Alexis is a long time supporter of mine and a keen photographer.  She took this photo of a Robin earlier this year and won the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh and Scotsman newspaper Photography competition – wildlife category

We have had it printed as a C5 size card as it is such a stunning photograph.

Then we have Giddy Goat – the original artwork was donated to us by Lynne Chapman, children’s author and illustrator.  Giddy is gorgeous.  Now that the cards are printed (DL size this time)  we are having the original artwork framed so that we can auction it at one of our upcoming events. If you would like to put in a bid for it please do get in touch!

And now for this year’s It’s Good 2 Give cards – exclusively designed for us by Kate Holliday of Sunlight on Closed Lids this is our third year of Kate’s wonderful designs.

This one is entitled ‘Sing’  SORRY SOLD OUT

and this one ‘Celebrate’  SORRY SOLD OUT

Both are 155mm square.

All our cards are packed in ten’s and cost £3.50 per pack.

To order, contact me and we can discuss delivery or post and packing.

Payment can be by cheque, cash, BACS or credit card (with a small extra cost for admin).

Sales have been simply fantastic – we are sold out of Sing and Celebrate and close to sell out for Giddy and Robin.

We owe huge thanks to Alexis, Lynne and Kate for donating or designing especially to and for us.

2011 Christmas card guide

Posted by | christmas merchandise | No Comments

Our range of Christmas cards is rather special – all the cards have been especially and exclusively designed just for us.  Now that often involves great cost but for us we are blessed with wonderful designers giving of their time and skills.  Earlier this year they each designed a card or two for us.

Kate Holliday designed this card entitled The Gifts

Kate is a young professional designer who, until recently, lived in Edinburgh and has helped us fundraise.  She designed one of our christmas cards last year too – and it turned into our bestseller.

I love the little cat playing with the shooting stars in the girl’s lap and the tiny wren perched atop a gift.

Laura Park is another young professional designer who has donated several designs for us including this gorgeous Robin card.  Like Kate, Laura recently moved away from Edinburgh but continues to support It’s Good 2 Give by donating her designs.  (and her dad is considering climbing Kili with us in 2013! let’s give him lots of encouragement)

The Doodle house card is such fun – designed by doodologist Claire Pitt - Claire originally designed the doodle house we have on this website – and offered to make it all christmassy for a card.  It looks fantastic.

and finally the winner of our Pound Pics challenge last year was a young man called Corey Hastings – Corey’s Pound Pic was so good – and when we gave him his prize he very kindly offered to do further art work for us – so, it will come as no surprise that I jumped at the chance to have him design one of our christmas cards!  Corey submitted two designs to us and we loved them both – so we printed them both!

and here they are……

We are also very grateful to Farquhar and Son, printers in Perth for their help with layout and printing.  Complete novices at this we certainly needed their help.  Let’s not forget our photographer, Istvan Magyar, who took all the photos of the cards shown here.

I suppose there must be a machine that packs cards into cellophane packs but for us – well suffice to say we learnt quickly how to fold the cards, count them, count envelopes and put them into the packs, labels onto the back and pack them into boxes!   We were lean mean packing machines for a few days in August.

Each pack of ten cards costs £3.50 per pack and is superb value for such lovingly designed cards.    We are biased but we think all our card designers are the bees knees and hope you will support them and us by ordering our cards.

If you’d like to place an order drop me an email on or use the contact us page.
